Art Work Inspiration from Bengali Folk Song

September 22, 2010

This is a wondeful video to watch. The song nearly touched me as I am originally Bengali. As we all know, West Bengal is known for its Bengali Folk Songs which bring about calmness and serenity for the mind and soul for villages in Bengal. The Folk singers in Bengal are known as “baul”. They sing their self composed songs using Ektara.

Here on this video you see an artist painting a portrait of a bengali women’s face, the look of a married bengali women. The painting portrays of the women dreaming of her loved one (soul mate) to come back to her.

The artist painted this painting with regards to the inspiration from this particular bengali folk song.

The soundtrack is from the movie Monpura and have been sung by Krishnokoli and Chondona Mojumdar.
